We will sleep at two locations during this trip.
The first one is at 3207 meters, where we find the Refuge Toubkal, or Neltner shelter.
It’s a shelter, what can we say? 🙂 Bunkbeds on the one hand side, awesome views and friendly staff on the other side. Oddly as it may sound now, we are quite convinced that you will like it here!
Our second home away from home is Quaryati. Located about 30 minutes outside of Marrakech. Close enough and far enough as Marrakech is lush but it can be extremely busy too. It features a spa centre with hammam, and has an outdoor swimming pool with breathtaking views of the High Atlas Mountains.
Rooms are not luxurious but they offer everything you need during a yoga holiday.
On site, you can go for a walk, take a bike or find the peace and tranquility that this place offers.
3 Day Toubkal Experience: Good to know
Do I need to be (super) fit?
The ascent of Jbel Toubkal (4167m), North Africa’s highest mountain, is achievable without specialist climbing skills. Most people who are reasonably fit and determined can achieve this goal. Slowly, step by step but know, yes, it is hard.
If you have not walked at heights of 4000m before do not be surprised at the slow pace, which is certainly the best way to get to the top no matter how fit you are. It’s not a race and we will keep a very close eye on you that things are safe for everyone involved.
How about comfort and luxury during the trek?
During our 3 Day Toubkal Experience, we will sleep at the Refuge Toubkal for 2 nights. This is the only possibility and it’s not luxurious, … at all. Think of it as a communal bunkhouse sleeping platform.
What should I bring?
Not too much! Luggage is transported on mules but this doesn’t mean you should bring 5 suitcases…
Before departure, we will send you more information of course about all practicalities.
Most important things:
- Walking boots or tracking shoes (trainers are not ok, they don’t protect your ankles and might not have enough grip)
- Sleeping bag
- Day rucksack /backpack
- Rain clothes
- Water bottle. You can leave the clothes for the 5 day yoga holiday at Quaryati, where we will start our Toubkal Experience.
It’s Ramadan, how will this effect our trip?
Personally, we believe Ramadan is a wonderful time to be in Morocco. Ramadan is a time for contemplation, a time to retreat, be very conscious about our eating habits and reflect. Having this in mind, we can’t think of a better time to organise a retreat!
As the locals, and our guides will follow the strict rules of Ramadan, things might be a bit slower then usual. Or, we have to take some more rest here and there. During Ramadan, the medina of Marrakech is a very interesting place to visit. Hardly anyone there during the day!
Morocco in summer, will it be too hot?
Morocco in summer could be warm to very hot. However, during our 3 Day Toubkal Experience, we will be at an altitude of 3000 meter and higher, so temperatures should be ideal to climb. Not as warm as in the rest of the country.
During the yoga holiday, we are outside of the medina and still quite near to the High Atlas Mountains so also here, temperatures are really nice. We can only say that the past two years, June was absolutely lush!
Can I do the yoga holiday and leave the trek out?
Absolutely, you can join us for a wonderful 5 day yoga retreat, leaving out the first 3 trekking days. Contact me for more information about prices and practicalities.
This wouldn’t be a Revealing Vajra Experience if there’s wasn’t extra attention for the things we would eat…
As I live in Morocco, I have asked many people about their Toubkal experience and one thing that kept coming back was the quality of the food during the Toubkal treks. Consequently, we’ll just bring our own food!
This way, we’ll be boosted with super foods and fly up that mountain!
Don’t expect a three course meal now! What you can expect is healthy, vegan and delicious fresh and good food.
We will also have lunch at places with breathtaking views.
This retreat is now over for this year..
Please contact Rachel at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out about dates next year or other Revaling Vajra retreats.
YOUR HOSTS AND TRAVEL GUIDES
For the first part of this amazing yoga and hiking retreat, the 3 Day Toubkal Experience, Revealing Vajra is teaming up with Coco Morocco. Coco Morocco, or the hot webzine on cool Morocco, is an initiative from Marlène Pauly, a Belgian trendspotter who’s been living in Morocco since 2012.
With her on board, we just know things will be organised into perfection as she knows the ins and outs of getting things done in Morocco. From the transfers to what we’ll be munging down, it will be perfectly organised, which is quite a challenge sometimes.
The yoga classes and the 5 day yoga holiday near Marrakech will be organised by myself, Rachel Bonkink. I have been teaching for several years now and I do what I do because it is who I am – it is what I love to do. Traveling the world and inspiring people in anyway I can.
I’m a RYS 600+ trained yoga and meditation teacher with many years of professional teaching and coaching experience.
There’s a strong corporate background and I teach different yoga styles, from traditional Hatha Yoga to Kundalini and Yin yoga. Pranayama (breathing), meditation and yoga philosophy are part of all my lessons.
You will go home after this week, with a mental back pack, filled with incredible memories and practical tools to help you maintain and cultivate Balance in your daily life.
To me, these holidays are so much more than just a getaway.
This retreat can be truly life changing. It will empower you to become a more healthy and happy person.
All levels of yoga are welcome!!!

What a great retreat in an amazing location! I had such a good time and I wish there was one more week to come! The yoga classes are not too intense, but really creative and very interesting. After a week of practise, I can feel the benefits of daily yoga and meditation. It helped me to create some space and look at my thoughts and emotions from a distance. There is still a lot to sort out, but I feel that I am coming back stronger and with an open mind. Thank you for that!
