Location
We will sleep at several locations during this trip.
Your hotels and Riads are su-per nice! All my personal favourite places to stay even.
The refuge we will stay at is a shelter…
It’s a shelter, what can we say? 🙂 Bunkbeds on the one hand side, awesome views and friendly staff on the other side. Oddly as it may sound now, we are quite convinced that you will really like it here!
Luxury level: Zero. Adventure Level: 10+!
If the weather is good, we will sleep in tents. This is the better option, even if you don’t like camping, trust me 🙂
In our guesthouse, the rooms are not luxurious but they offer everything you need during a hiking and yoga holiday.
Toubkal Experience: Good to know
Do I need to be (super) fit?
The ascent of Jbel Toubkal (4167m), North Africa’s highest mountain, is achievable without any climbing skills. Most people who are reasonably fit and determined can achieve this goal. Slowly, step by step.
If you have not walked at heights of 4000m before, do not be surprised about the slow pace, which is certainly the best way to get to the top no matter how fit you are.
It’s not a race and we will keep a very close eye on you that things are safe for everyone involved.
How about comfort and luxury during the trek?
During our Trekking, we will sleep at a guesthouse and a Refuge. This is the only possibility and it’s not luxurious, … at all. Think of it as a communal bunkhouse sleeping platform.
In all places, service level is high and the staff is super nice.
What should I bring?
Not too much! Luggage is transported on mules but this doesn’t mean you should bring 5 suitcases…
Before departure, I will send you more information of course about all practicalities.
Most important things:
- Walking boots or tracking shoes (trainers are not ok, they don’t protect your ankles and might not have enough grip)
- Flip flops/ comfy slippers – no shoes in the refuge and, you really want to get rid of those boots after a day of walking…
- Day rucksack / backpack
- Rain clothes
- Water bottle – ideally camel bag
Morocco in May, will it be too hot?
During our Walking Experience, we will be at an altitude of 2000 meter and higher, so temperatures should be ideal to climb. Not as warm as in the rest of the country. Towards the summit, you will need a hat and gloves, it can get really cold.
We can only say that the past years, May was absolutely lush! Our day in Marrakech could be warm, or even hot but we will adjust the program in order for it to be nice and doable.
Can I do the Hiking and Trekking and leave the Yoga lessons out?
Yes, you can although this is what makes this particular retreat special.
There are many hiking holidays out there so it might be more interesting to contact those.
If your partner is interested in joining and not into yoga: he, she, they can come of course. Rachel’s personal condition for them to join is that they follow at least 1 yoga class during our time together 🙂
Great Food!
This wouldn’t be a Revealing Vajra Experience if there’s wasn’t extra attention for food!
We will bring our own chefs and they will prepare awesome lunches and dinners. With this kind of food, we will simply fly up that mountain! Don’t expect Michelin stars now…, we are in the middle of the mountains. What you can expect is simple and really good food. We will also have lunches with breathtaking views.
You will get to taste all the typical Moroccan dishes and it will never taste the same. You will love it, even if you have no idea what Moroccan cuisine means right now. It’s more than tajine, that’s for sure.

I recently participated on the Revealing Vajra retreat in Morocco and it was a fantastic experience. The stay at Quaryati was comfortable and welcoming, with beautiful rooms and stunning views of the mountains.
The 3-day climb of Toubkal (4167 m) departing from Imlil was challenging but well worth it, with breathtaking views and great guidance from our guides.
The guides and crew were also fantastic in the kitchen, with delicious dishes that helped us keep our energy levels high during our hikes.
The stay in Essaouira on the coast was refreshing, especially after our intensive mountain hikes, and I enjoyed the invigorating treatments at the local hammam.
Marrakesh was a great conclusion to our trip, with a culinary workshop as the icing on the cake. I enjoyed learning to make and taste new dishes.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this yoga and hiking retreat to anyone looking for adventure, relaxation, and culinary indulgence in Morocco. The guides and crew were excellent, the landscape breathtaking, and everything was taken care of down to every detail. Thank you Rachel for this unforgettable experience!
See you on the next retreat !

One of the best retreats I ever attended. Rachel has a vast knowledge of yoga and all its aspects and made sure that we all got a taste of it. The week was very complete in the amount of activities, yoga and excursion time. I highly recommend Rachel's retreats to anyone wanting a wonderful week, away from the intensity of every day life. To learn new skills, to relax in a beautiful setting with amazing food. Thank you!

What a great retreat in an amazing location! I had such a good time and I wish there was one more week to come! The yoga classes are not too intense, but really creative and very interesting. After a week of practise, I can feel the benefits of daily yoga and meditation. It helped me to create some space and look at my thoughts and emotions from a distance. There is still a lot to sort out, but I feel that I am coming back stronger and with an open mind. Thank you for that!
