We will sleep at three locations during this trip.
Our first home is Rachida and Abdu’s Lodge in Imlil. A wonderful new Lodge where tradition meets Western needs. Rachida is famous for being thé best cook in the Atlas Mountains so be prepared to have some seriously good Moroccan food!
Our second home away from home is at 3207 meters, where we find the Refuge Toubkal, or Neltner shelter.
It’s a shelter, what can we say? 🙂 Bunkbeds on the one hand side, awesome views and friendly staff on the other side. Oddly as it may sound now, we are quite convinced that you will like it here!
Luxury level: Zero. Adventure Level: 10+!
Our third home away from home is Quaryati. Located about 30 minutes outside of Marrakech. Close enough and far enough as Marrakech is lush but it can be extremely busy too. It features a spa with hammam, and has an outdoor swimming pool with breathtaking views of the High Atlas Mountains.
Rooms are not luxurious but they offer everything you need during a yoga holiday.
On site, you can go for a walk, take a bike or find the peace and tranquility that this place offers.
Toubkal Experience: Good to know
Do I need to be (super) fit?
The ascent of Jbel Toubkal (4167m), North Africa’s highest mountain, is achievable without specialist climbing skills. Most people who are reasonably fit and determined can achieve this goal. Slowly, step by step but know, yes, it is a bit hard.
If you have not walked at heights of 4000m before do not be surprised at the slow pace, which is certainly the best way to get to the top no matter how fit you are.
It’s not a race and we will keep a very close eye on you that things are safe for everyone involved.
How about comfort and luxury during the trek?
During our 4 Day Toubkal Experience, we will sleep at the Refuge Toubkal for 1 night. This is the only possibility and it’s not luxurious, … at all. Think of it as a communal bunkhouse sleeping platform. Our Lodge in Imlil is brilliant as it is ran by Rachida, she built the whole thing from scratch and practises her art here, which is cooking. You will feel right at home, no doubt. Quaryati offers everything you can expect from an amazing retreat location.
In all three places, service level is high and the staff is super nice.
What should I bring?
Not too much! Luggage is transported on mules but this doesn’t mean you should bring 5 suitcases…
Before departure, we will send you more information of course about all practicalities.
Most important things:
- Walking boots or tracking shoes (trainers are not ok, they don’t protect your ankles and might not have enough grip)
- Sleeping bag
- Day rucksack /backpack
- Rain clothes
- Water bottle
Morocco in summer, will it be too hot?
Morocco in summer could be warm to very hot. However, during our 4 Day Toubkal Experience, we will be at an altitude of 2000 meter and higher, so temperatures should be ideal to climb. Not as warm as in the rest of the country.
During the yoga holiday, we are outside of the medina and still near to the High Atlas Mountains so also here, temperatures are really nice. We can only say that the past two years, June was absolutely lush! Our day in Marrakech could be warm, or even hot but we will adjust the program in order for it to be nice and doable.
Can I do the yoga holiday and leave the trek out?
No, I’m afraid not. The group will have had the Toubkal Experience together and it’s probably all they talk about… Joining a group that has had this experience together might not be the most fun thing to do. My lessons will also focus on restoring, stressing and stretching the muscles after the hiking experience.
Check out the other yoga holidays in Morocco and other countries if you’re up for a week of relaxation and fun!
Can I do the Toubkal Trek and leave the yoga holiday out?
This depends on the number of participants. I would like to keep our group nice and small in order for us all to have a great experience. Walking up a mountain can be challenging with different levels of fitness.
From experience, I know that a group of 8-10 max is ideal.
Just contact me if you are interested in climbing Toubkal.
If you can’t join our group, I can direct you to the coolest guides who can take you up, and down.
This wouldn’t be a Revealing Vajra Experience if there’s wasn’t extra attention for food!
With Rachida as our super chef in Imlil, she will prepare us some awesome lunches and dinners, for us to simply fly up that mountain! Don’t expect Michelin stars now, we are in the middle of the mountains. What you can expect is simple and really good food. We will also have lunch at a place with breathtaking views.
At Quaryati, the standard of our meals will be higher than anywhere else in Morocco. I have brought my own chefs to train the local staff and they can now cater for all and any food allergies and prepare the most delicious things for you.
You will get to taste all the typical Moroccan dishes and it will never taste the same. From zaalouk to harera, from pastilla to couscous: you will love it, even if you have no idea what this means right now 🙂
This retreat is now over for this year..
Please contact Rachel at email@example.com to find out about dates next year or other Revaling Vajra retreats.

One of the best retreats I ever attended. Rachel has a vast knowledge of yoga and all its aspects and made sure that we all got a taste of it. The week was very complete in the amount of activities, yoga and excursion time. I highly recommend Rachel's retreats to anyone wanting a wonderful week, away from the intensity of every day life. To learn new skills, to relax in a beautiful setting with amazing food. Thank you!
Lauretta Zucchetti, Italy - March 2018, Marrakech
What a great retreat in an amazing location! I had such a good time and I wish there was one more week to come! The yoga classes are not too intense, but really creative and very interesting. After a week of practise, I can feel the benefits of daily yoga and meditation. It helped me to create some space and look at my thoughts and emotions from a distance. There is still a lot to sort out, but I feel that I am coming back stronger and with an open mind. Thank you for that!
