This retreat started with an incredible hike to the top of Mount Toubkal, 4167 meters! Afterwards the retreat kept on being a rich and amazing experience. Rachel is a funny and lovely person. She has everything under control, is always on time and is a very professional yoga teacher. It was interesting for me to discover some new styles and I loved the extra attention to pranayama and meditation. Eating together in all these nice environments was great and the pool in Marrakech is super! I can very much recommend Rachel and Revealing Vajra Yoga retreats!

Your Massively Exciting Schedule

Saturday: Marrakech
Transfers today are organised for you from the Marrakech airport to our venue.
No real programme, we just have a wonderful homemade dinner together and an orientation with meditation as soon as everyone has arrived around 7PM.
Suggested arrival time at the Marrakech airport is before 5PM so you have time to settle in.

Sunday : Relax aaand stretching your legs a bit
After yoga, meditation and breakfast, we drive up to Imil and meet our guide.
We have a first hike together to feel how it all feels and be in awe of the Mountains. Meditation along the way.
Dinner will surprise your taste buds for sure and we sleep at the most typical little place.

Monday : So it begins….
Early morning meditation, breakfast and then we begin our journey!
We start our walking together towards the refuge. It’s a long walk but at a steady pace, you will hardly feel the incline.
Dinner and a very early night sleep.

Tuesday : Yes, we can!
We get up really early, 4:30AM, to reach for the summit. We should be there after a three-four hour walk or so.
We can make 5 million pictures and selfies and head back to our base camp in Imlil.
A wonderful and nourishing dinner awaits us and some very well deserved rest.

Wednesday: Essaouira
Early morning meditation and stretching.
Let’s go to the sea side! It’s a long drive (5 hours) but we’ll make it fun, no worries.
Massages, great food and relaxation please in this gorgeous town of art, music and spices.

Thursday: Essaouira
Taking it all in.
Strolling around in the Medina, having a two hour tea break, doing absolutely nothing (or a lot).

Friday: Sidi Kaouki and Marrakech
If the wind is right (= not too crazy) and you feel up for it, we do a 21 kilometer beach walk to the next town.
After lunch, we head to Marrakech.
We will stay in the medina so you can enjoy the hustle and bustle or, stay in of course and rest and relax.
Dinner out in one of thé best restaurants in town!
After being one with nature all week, it’s time to put on the fancy pants 🙂 or not of course, the main thing is that the food is really-really good and it’s one of the coolest rooftop restaurants out there, very instagram-ish 🙂

Satuday: Departure Time
After breakfast, we end our all inclusive program.

Location

We will sleep at several locations during this trip.

Confirming the hotels and riads as we speak so more information is coming soon.

The refuge we will stay at is a shelter.
It’s a shelter, what can we say? 🙂 Bunkbeds on the one hand side, awesome views and friendly staff on the other side. Oddly as it may sound now, we are quite convinced that you will like it here!
Luxury level: Zero. Adventure Level: 10+!
If the weather is good, we will sleep in tents. This is the better option, even if you don’t like camping, trust me 🙂

In our guesthouse, the rooms are not luxurious but they offer everything you need during a hiking and yoga holiday.

Toubkal Experience: Good to know

Do I need to be (super) fit?

The ascent of Jbel Toubkal (4167m), North Africa’s highest mountain, is achievable without any climbing skills. Most people who are reasonably fit and determined can achieve this goal. Slowly, step by step.
If you have not walked at heights of 4000m before, do not be surprised about the slow pace, which is certainly the best way to get to the top no matter how fit you are.
It’s not a race and we will keep a very close eye on you that things are safe for everyone involved.

How about comfort and luxury during the trek?

During our Trekking, we will sleep at a guesthouse and a Refuge. This is the only possibility and it’s not luxurious, … at all. Think of it as a communal bunkhouse sleeping platform.
In all three places, service level is high and the staff is super nice.

What should I bring?

Not too much! Luggage is transported on mules but this doesn’t mean you should bring 5 suitcases…
Before departure, we will send you more information of course about all practicalities.

Most important things:

  • Walking boots or tracking shoes (trainers are not ok, they don’t protect your ankles and might not have enough grip)
  • Sleeping bag
  • Day rucksack /backpack
  • Rain clothes
  • Water bottle – ideally camel bag

Morocco in May, will it be too hot?

During our Walking Experience, we will be at an altitude of 2000 meter and higher, so temperatures should be ideal to climb. Not as warm as in the rest of the country.

We can only say that the past years, May was absolutely lush! Our day in Marrakech could be warm, or even hot but we will adjust the program in order for it to be nice and doable.

Can I do the Hiking and Trekking and leave the Yoga lessons out?

Yes, you can although this is what makes this particular retreat special. There are many hiking holidays out there so it might be more interesting to contact those.
If your partner is interested in joining and not into yoga, he or she can come of course. Rachel’s personal condition to join is that he or she follows at least 1 yoga class during our time together 🙂

Great Food!

This wouldn’t be a Revealing Vajra Experience if there’s wasn’t extra attention for food!

We will bring our own chefs and they will prepare awesome lunches and dinners. With this kind of food, we will simply fly up that mountain! Don’t expect Michelin stars now, we are in the middle of the mountains. What you can expect is simple and really good food. We will also have lunches with breathtaking views.

You will get to taste all the typical Moroccan dishes and it will never taste the same. You will love it, even if you have no idea what Moroccan cuisine means right now.

Testimonials

One of the best retreats I ever attended. Rachel has a vast knowledge of yoga and all its aspects and made sure that we all got a taste of it. The week was very complete in the amount of activities, yoga and excursion time. I highly recommend Rachel's retreats to anyone wanting a wonderful week, away from the intensity of every day life. To learn new skills, to relax in a beautiful setting with amazing food. Thank you!

Lauretta Zucchetti, Italy

What a great retreat in an amazing location! I had such a good time and I wish there was one more week to come! The yoga classes are not too intense, but really creative and very interesting. After a week of practise, I can feel the benefits of daily yoga and meditation. It helped me to create some space and look at my thoughts and emotions from a distance. There is still a lot to sort out, but I feel that I am coming back stronger and with an open mind. Thank you for that!

Ewa Paluszkiewicz, Poland

This week has been a totally unique experience to me. I leave taking away so many wonderful things and experiences which will stay with me for the rest of my life. Thank you!
